Horse Aware Week Open Day will take place on Saturday 14th April 2018

The Horse Aware Week Open Day will take place on Saturday 14th April from 11.00 -3.00 pm at Ballyowen Equine Centre, Ronanstown, Co Dublin.

The Open Day is part of Horse Aware Week, a joint initiative between Clondalkin Equine Club, DSPCA, the Irish Horse Welfare Trust, Fettercairn Youth Horse Project & UCD Veterinary Hospital. This event is supported by South Dublin County Council. It is part of a concerted effort to increase awareness about responsible horse ownership in the Dublin area*.

TIME TABLE OF EVENTS

11.15 – 11.45 Johnny Murtagh, Irish flat racing jockey and  trainer

12.00 – 12.30 RACE Academy

12.45 – 1.15 Presentation by Nikki Walshe, Lecturer Equine Clinical Studies UCD on equine nutrition and  worming

1.30 – 2.00 Talk by Keith Donohue, member of Dunsink Horse Club, trained at RACE Academy

2.15 – 2.45 Demo by Ann Keogan, Fettercairn Youth Horse Project, how to lunge a horse

The Garda Mounted Unit & Army Equitation School will also be there. The IHWT & Jig Saw Youth Mental Health will have information stands.

* The Horse Aware Week and the Open Day are part of a concerted effort to increase awareness about responsible horse ownership in the Dublin area spearheaded by the DRHWWG (Dublin Region Horse Welfare Working Group), which is a regional group established last year by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Dublin City Council, Fingal County Council, South Dublin County Council, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and An Garda Siochana.

Representatives from the various animal and equine welfare organisations including DSPCA, the Irish Horse Welfare Trust, My Lovely Horse Rescue (MLHR), Donkey Sanctuary, Clondalkin Equine Club, Fettercairn Youth Horse Project, Cherry Orchard Equine Centre and representatives from Dublin Traveller community groups have all signed up to DRHWWG.
