The second phase of  the West Tallaght Schools Equine Initiative has commenced in the Fettercairn Youth Horse Project.

While the first phase was designed to introduce a large number of children in the West Tallaght area to the possibility of enjoying the whole equine experience, the aim of the second phase is to provide a pathway for progression in the sport in an inclusive, supportive and developmental environment.

Children from St Anne’s and St Aidan’s Primary Schools are attending a ten week programme. There are ten children from each school attending once a week for an hour session which includes half hour Riding/Equitation class and a Stable Management class.

The children have completed two session to date where they covered topics like mounting and dismounting, horse behaviour and safety rules when around the horses in the stables.

All twenty children are very keen to learn and it is hoped they will all pass their AIRE Foundation A at the end of the programme.

The West Tallaght Schools Equine Initiative has been made possible by the generous funding provided by The Ireland Fund.
